The 1863 lock plate has standard U.S./Colt markings and the bolster has the eagle/shield motif. The barrel is dated 1863 and the left rear has "V/P/eagle head proofs" and "FEM". Three-leaf rear sight, three "U" stamped barrel bands, "US" marked buttplate and two faint cartouches on the left stock flat. The underside of the stock ahead of the trigger guard is stamped "N. W. CUMMING". With iron ramrod.

Condition: About fair. The musket has a mottled gray patina with a darker patina on the action. There a few scattered areas of minor pitting. The lightly sanded stock is fair with some scattered minor handling marks. Action needs work as hammer does not release properly when trigger is pulled.
