U.S. Cavalry sword (no scabbard) approx. 41” overall and approx. 35” curved blade marked “US”, “1865”, “A.G.M.” on one side of the hilt and “Roby”, “W. Chelmsford, Mass.” on the other side of the hilt; in overall fair condition showing an uncleaned blade with a heavy brown patina and scattered areas of erosion; brass guard has been painted at some time silver; the grip retains worn leather wrap and partial wire decoration. This old work horse may have been painted for GAR ceremonial activities or display at a veteran’s lodge. Est.: $200-$400.
