This is a pair of U.S. Cavalry leather saddlebags. The saddlebags are Model 1885 and were used during the Indian Wars of the late 1800's. Each side is marked "U.S.". During that time, the U.S. Army was working to move Native Americans to reservations in order to civilize them. Most notably was the Battle of the Little Bighorn where General Custer and a force of over 700 men were defeated by the Native Americans. Eventually, however, the Native American people were forced back onto reservations by the early 1900's. These saddlebags shows good overall condition. They measure 13" x 21".
