Charles E. Barber's Liberty Head was the last design to appear on three different U.S. coin denominations (the dime, quarter and half dollar). The U.S. Mint Chief Engraver, Barber spent several years perfecting this classical Libertyengraving. His Presidential Seal reverse is also greatly admired, adapted from an early U.S. Mint design. In their day, these 90% silver quarters could purchase a meal or buy a full gallon of paint. Quarter mintages today are generally over a hundred times higher than for this vintage series.
