Our Assessment: The pistol is in Fine Antique condition. While commonly encountered in rifle form, this is the 1871 U.S. Army Rolling Block pistol. The 1871 was an improvement to the 1867 and the main upgrades were a firing pin retractor, rotating case extractor, 8″ barrel, larger front sight, and an improved grip frame. This beautiful pistol is a great example of an 1871 Army and a Rolling Block that we do not see too many of. It is correctly marked with matching numbers andi in perfect operation condition. Our Assessment: The pistol is in Fine Antique condition. While commonly encountered in rifle form, this is the 1871 U.S. Army Rolling Block pistol. The 1871 was an improvement to the 1867 and the main upgrades were a firing pin retractor, rotating case extractor, 8″ barrel, larger front sight, and an improved grip frame. Year of Manufacture: Circa 1872-1877

Action Type: Single Action Rolling Block

Barrel Length: 8"

Markings: The left side of the receiver is marked "ReMINGTON’S ILION, N.Y. U.S.A. / MAY 3D NOV 15TH 1864 APRIL 17TH 1866", and with a seriffed "P" and "S". There is a "CRS" cartouche on the left side of the grip. The grip and receiver have matching serial numbers.

Sights / Optics: There is a rounded blade front sight fixed to the top of the barrel.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two piece smooth walnut with oil staining around the metal parts and on the bottom of the grip.There are scattered dings with a few draglines, but no cracks or chips. The grips are in about Fine overall condition.

Type of Finish: The barrel and trigger are blued, while the receiver, trigger guard and action parts are case colored.

Finish Originality: All Original

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly black with sharp rifling. There are a few spots of light frosting in the bore with light erosion near the muzzle.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 65% of its metal finish. There are scattered spots of frosting with a few spots of heavier erosion on the barrel and front sight. The case color has mostly thinned but is still visible with a few areas of strong case color. There is some finish loss on the edges and a few little marks through the finish.
Mechanics: The action function correctly. The barrel has a 1/4 cock safety notch. We have not fired this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
