U.S. Army Officer's Model 1902 Sword, by Springfield Armory, circa 1903-04, the 31.5" etched decorated blade has the early Springfield Armory maker's mark at the ricasso. Blade has floral decorations, U.S., and American eagle with shield. Grooved horn grip, nickel silver four-branch guard, ferrule, and backstrap. Woven leather cord and leather knot. Scabbard is a bright steel reproduction with two hanging rings. Mouth fitting of the scabbard is stuck to the blade ricasso. The original leather blade washer is present. Condition is very good, the blade is mostly bright with clear etching, some rust spotting and freckling, minor rust, and very minor edge nicks. The outer branch of the guard has been bent and straightened. There is a small chip forming at the bottom of the horn grip. Guard and backstrap show light age and marks from use. Knot and cord show age and fraying, with the top loop missing. Scabbard is bright as new, but as stated above, is a modern reproduction. Includes the book "Swords and Sabers of the Armory at Springfield", by Burton A. Kellerstedt. Est.: $150-$200.
