U.S. Army Contract Springfield Armory M1911 Semi-Automatic Pistol with Holster

This is a scarce example of a original, U.S. Army contract Model 1911 Semi-Automatic Pistol that was manufactured by Springfield Armory in 1914. There were only 11,285 pistols manufactured between 1913 and 1914 at the US Government Armory. The left side of the slide is stamped with the two-line, two block markings, of Colts patent dates over "COLT'S PT.F.A.MFG. CO." in the first block with "SPRINGFIELD ARMORY/U.S.A." markings in the second block. The right side of the slide has the "American Eagle/Shield" motif followed by "MODEL OF 1911". The left side of the frame has the "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" marking on the frame extension with "Shell and Flame" final inspection mark above the magazine release. It is fitted with the correct WWI Springfield Armory barrel, marked with a small "s" on the side of the lug. Complete with a replacement Colt manufactured M1911 half-tone magazine with a lanyard loop on the base. Included with the pistol is a Model 1912 leather holster with the drop down hanger. The back side of the holster is marked "ROCK ISLAND/ARSENAL/1913/T.C.C."

Very fine overall with 70% plus of the original blue finish remaining overall, showing even honest wear. The grips are very fine with nice distinct checkering on both sides with minor handling marks. The holster is fine with a nice original dark brown color, with clear sharp markings and tight stitching showing minor scuffs and use overall. The leather is still pliable and it includes the original leather leg tie-down strap. The very top, edge of the slide stop lever, has been shortened slightly. A very nice, all original early WWI Springfield Armory Model 1911 rig with the correct original early style leather holster.
