U.S. Army Colt Model 1911 Semi-Automatic Pistol with Factory Letter
According to the included factory letter, this pistol was shipped to the Commanding General of the Washington D.C. Militia on July 21, 1914, and confirms the serial number, caliber and barrel, with the traditional unlisted grips. A second letter, from historian Lowell E. Pauli of the Colt Collectors Association, discusses the lack of U.S. Property and trigger bow verification stamps on this pistol, presenting the conclusion that the original frame failed an inspection at an early phase, and would have to be reworked or replaced, missing some steps in the stamping process. The slide is marked with the two block, two line patent dates and Hartford address with the Rampant Colt behind the serrations on the left side and "MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY" on the right. Checkered slide stop, thumb safety and wide spur hammer. The top of the barrel is marked "P" and "H", with an additional "H" on the rear of the slide. The right trigger guard bow is marked "K". Complete with a two-tone magazine with lanyard loop on the bottom and diamond checkered grips.
