U.S. Ames Model 1860 Light Cavalry Saber with Scabbard
Regulation pattern Ames Model 1860 Light Cavalry Saber manufactured in 1862. The obverse ricasso is marked, "U.S./J.H./1862" and the reverse has a faint Ames, "CHICOPEE/MASS" address. A "J.H" sub-inspection mark is visible on the pommel. The saber has a brass three-branch guard with helmet pommel, leather-wrapped grip and iron scabbard.

Fair, the blade has a dark, silver gray, patina with scattered age spotting and several nicks in the edge. The brass guard and pommel have been polished. All of the twisted brass wire wrap and 70% of the leather grip cover are missing. The front of the grip has a period repair. The scabbard has a dark patina with surface rust.
