The black worsted wool dress helmet and hat band, with patent leather edging. The gold-plated, brass helmet plate, consists of the U.S. Eagle and Shield insignia, with crossed cannons behind the shield. The eagle has arrows in left talon and olive branch in right talon. The crown has the red artillery horse-hair plume and there are two crossed cannon side buttons, with the left side having a hook. Three metal U.S. shield hooks attached at crown on either side and in rear, along with pinwheel side vents. The side hooks hold a gold braided cord. Canvas interior with red paper label marked "J.H. McKENNEY & CO. /141 GRAND ST. N.Y.:" at crown and "67" marked on inside brim at rear.

Condition: Fine with moderate wear overall and a small rectangular repair on left side. Patent leather edging is cracked, with portions missing. The plating on the metal at crown has some flaking. Interior has light staining, and there is faint traces of writing and a stamp on the brim. The sweat band is fair with light scuffing, fading and staining.
