U-BOAT ENGINEER'S FOUR AWARD DOCUMENTS
Lot of four scarce award documents issued to the same U-boat sailor, Obermachinist Walter Tiedmann. Included is the award for the Iron Cross, 2nd Class issued at Wilhelmshaven, May 8, 1940 and signed by WILHELM MARSCHALL (1886-1976). Marschall, an admiral, led the German force which sank HMS RAWALPINDI, also engaged and sank British carrier HMS GLORIOUS and two escorts, later named commanding admiral of occupied France. On Dec. 2, 1941 the engineer receives his U-Boat Badge, the award bearing a stamped signature of Karl Donitz. On Feb. 14, 1943 Tiedmann receives an Iron Cross, 1st Class, awarded by an unknown captain of U-Boat West, and on Oct. 25, 1944 the engineer is awarded the U-Boat Clasp in Bronze by a flotilla officer.
