ALS, three pages, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, January 27, 1916. Cobb writes a friend from Detroit, Fred Hall, following a recent visit. In part, "I hope you all got home O.K. and had no train sickness Etc. I hope also you have by this time caught up with your sleep also your work. We miss you all a whole lot and things did not seem the same and I will admit we were depressed after you left—and Mrs. Hall did not have anything on Mrs. Cobb for I had a time with her when we got back in car. And you can take it from me we all were genuinely sorry to see you all leave."

Cobb then writes about a place Hall may be interested in renting, In part: "The place is 41 miles from here 11 miles below Waynesboro and 3 miles this side of Perkins where you and I hunted, Babcock trained right close to this place two years. The place has 1700 acres, I think an old Colonial home, has waterworks acetylene gas and baths, and land could be gotten around there if you needed more and the price is $200.00 per year and privilege of leasing for 5 years. Negro claims he can show 50 coveys of birds on big place which is 1200 acres and 500 acres is short piece away from main body of land. The fellow who suggested the proposition hunted on place this year one half day very bad weather conditions and poor dogs found 9 coveys been no shooting on place in years as owner was very cranky…what I want to know is do you want it if it looks good to me and I also will put in $100 of my money if you want me to and then if it suits you when you see it you can have it all if not mine goes in for my good faith, of course I have no use for place myself—and only want to put my money in as a guarantee that place will suit."

At the bottom of the third page, Cobb adds the postscript: “Grace is showing symptoms of that disease she has” initialing the comment, “T.R.C." In fine condition, with intersecting folds, and some light creasing and toning. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA.

Four months earlier, the 28-year-old outfielder had ended one of his best seasons, leading the Major Leagues in batting, runs, and hits, as well as setting a stolen-base record that stood for decades. A cordial and lengthy piece of correspondence from one of baseball’s greatest players.
