Ty Cobb typed letter signed, dated 20 March 1926, on ''Detroit Baseball Company'' letterhead, where Cobb was both a player and manager for the Detroit Tigers at the time. Letter, typed in blue ink, is addressed to Cobb's sports agent Christy Walsh and expresses his sympathies over the news of the death of Walsh's father. Reads in full: ''Dear Christy: -- I received your letter a few days ago upon my return from Baltimore where I was at Johns Hopkin [sic] for an operation on the eyes. I was very sorry indeed to hear of your great misfortune in the death of your father and I hope that you will accept my sincerest sympathies in your deep bereavement. You know Christy we have no control over these matters -- the schedule is prepared by someone higher up. Was glad to hear of Mrs. Walsh' safe return and I just hope that everything will develop perfectly for you all. I appreciate very much your thought in having sent check. If you don't mind, turn to your secretary -- have him call Bulger and have him send those scrap books at once. I sincerely hope they are in good condition. Keep the old head up for after all this is a wonderful world we live in. Hope to see you soon, and with kind regards, I am, Sincerely, Ty Cobb''. Signed boldly in green ink. Letter, measuring 8.5'' x 11'', has folds throughout and minor foxing in spots, including a rusted paperclip imprint. With a ''received by'' stamp in purple ink at lower right and an ''Ans 3/25'' pencil mark noting that Walsh answered the letter. With PSA/DNA COA. Very good condition.
