Dated ''Saturday'' in April 1960, Cobb writes to Marie Quinn, who had just accepted Cobb's offer to be his personal assistant and companion. In part, ''…Muddy Ruel (catcher) lives [in] Palo Alto, flew down, with me a few days, ball games Etc. and we drove back…am to build [a house] in Cornela, Ga…here is where you can help, in ideas, colors, of gingham type, window drapes, really spiffy, every one down in Georgia will like you much. You I think will not only have a fine position but will enjoy everything much that would mean opening day here 12th Apr. World Series, travel abroad as I elect, Mexico, Europe Etc. a place at Tahoe & Cornelia, Ga. cars, trips as I decide, Cooperstown, World Series, etc. You are to know my children. I told Shirley who you met on phone, you were going to help me, she was much pleased for her 73 year old Daddy, you are not to be a servant, you are secty. and do the running of homes Etc. you are to go with me, manage everything, if I am entertained you are to go along if you fit in as proper, what I mean a stag party you are out and stay at home or go where you please and to feel happy…you fit the bill…too good looking and a little on young side, but I am 73 and I think there will be no 'extra curricular' things, you will have every thing to be happy plus a good salary…you will never be sorry, especially economically…my desire is to live finely and comfortably and happily…I promise & offer you every protection & guarantee.
