Ty Cobb ALS
"WINNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED AFTER THE AUCTION ENDS BY THE AUCTIONEER ONCE ALL BIDS HAVE BEEN PROCESSED TO DETERMINE THE WINNER FOR EACH LOT."
Detroit Tigers legend Ty Cobb autograph letter signed, dated 17 September 1953. Letter, on ''Tyrus R. Cobb / Glenbrook, Douglas County / Nevada'' letterhead, is addressed to baseball agent Christy Walsh, who negotiated licensing for baseball legends including Cobb and Babe Ruth. Cobb discusses his firm commitment to Brown & Bigelow promotional company and, more interestingly, his drawn comparisons and feelings toward Babe Ruth. Letter, written in Cobb's signature green ink, reads in part, ''Dear Christy: Yours received, I appreciate your position, also desires, I simply cannot do this, believe me I am not refusing because of what happened in Pittsburgh…or the supposed cancellation of my stories at that time by my home state paper Georgia, (Atlanta) in favor of keeping Ruth's. I assure you this is not my reason. I do not vie for prominence, I do not need it or publicity, but I do know of all the efforts in every way possible that has been put forth by New York scribes, etc., to always play Ruth up, I am not egotistic but I do know the score and what my position is as I left with plenty of effort and deportment. Remember Christy I know who was voted in first to Baseball Hall of Fame (Cooperstown) and I know what the vote score was, you should, so I won't quote it…Remember we are friends if you wish it, this is no gripe on my part…I am / as Ever / Ty''. Letter measures 7.25'' x 10.5'' on 3pp., with four small additional addendum pages measuring 4'' x 6'' further discussing the media and ''N.Y. scribes'' giving preferential treatment to certain players. Also includes original postmarked envelope. Pages and envelope have staple holes in one corner. Near fine condition. Accompanied by PSA/DNA COA.
