Issued certificates from two different companies. 1) Diamond field Mascot Mining Company, issued in 1908 for 5,000 shares to Sowell Slack. Signed by Leo Garrett as president and Fred Fontaine as secretary. Three mining vignettes and gold seal. Uncancelled. 2) Diamond field Black Butte Cons. Mining Company, issued in 1906 at Tonopah. Seven mining vignettes. Issued to James Francis Lester for 100 shares. Signed by president (illegal) and Albert Watson as secretary. Diamond field was located 5 miles new of Goldfield and was named after it’s founder, “Diamond field Jack” Davis, who came to Tonopah in 1903 after a pardon for his murder conviction in Idaho (Paher). Davis laid out a town site and built a toll road to Goldfield. The town never had more than 200-300 residents and was through by 1907, according to Paher. Both certificates are in excellent, Uncancelled condition.
