Two-piece cherry secretary bookcase, top with two glass panels (doors probably reversed), fallboard with elaborately inlaid interior, prospect door with eagle inlay under an arch with 17 dots (states?) and fan corners, two drawers with oval inlay behind, sliding hidden compartment at base, two document drawers with vine inlay, flanked by eight drawers with various geometric light and dark wood inlays (13 interior compartments), base with four graduated drawers with lamb's tongue chamfered corners, yellow pine, poplar and walnut secondary, top with faint pencil inscription possibly date 18(??) and indistinct name, probably East Tennessee, early 19th century, 93 x 44 x 22 in. Base with replaced ogee bracket feet, replaced brass pulls, old refinishing, top possibly later. Accompanied by copy of receipt when consignor's parents purchased the secretary in Greeneville, Tennessee, 1934, "Ye Olde Furniture Shoppe, VM Kirk, $100 for desk," signed "Guy W. Bowers."
