Two varieties of the New Almaden soda bottles . Here are the 1860's clean aqua bottle with "W&W" embossed on the reverse (surface bubble break at right base edge) with some nice elongated bubbles, and a blue-aqua example of the 1879 dated variety with a little bit of stain. The New Almaden sodas have always been popular. Now a state park, the site had the largest American mercury mine for almost half a century. Worked by the Spanish before the gold rush, this property became a central figure in a legal battle that went all the way to the Supreme Court (and White House). The mineral springs there ran out through time, as well as contained mercury. This is a choice historical pair for any western mining or soda collector.
