A) The lock is dated 1863 behind the hammer and marked with the standard markings ahead of the hammer. The barrel has subsequently been shortened to current length. The top of the high arch breechblock is marked "1870 / eagle head / cross arrows / US". Serial number is marked on the left side of the barrel and action. The buttplate tang is marked "US / 17" and "77" is on the lower tang. Two piece trigger guard, ladder rear sight and sling swivels.

B) The lock is dated 1863 behind the hammer and marked with the standard markings ahead of the hammer. The barrel and forearm subsequently shortened to current length. The top of the high arch breechblock is marked "1870" over an obscured eagle head over "cross arrows / US". Serial number is marked only on the barrel. Two piece trigger guard, ladder rear sight and sling swivels. Iron ramrod is absent.

A) Good as modified (see above). The breechblock and receiver tang retain some patches of darkened case colors mixed with a smooth brown patina. The remaining surfaces have a balance between a smooth gray patina and smooth brown patina, with some scattered minor pitting. The stock is very good with the exception of a minor crack on the forearm and some minor dings and scratches overall.

B) Good as modified (see above). Overall the rifle has a gray mottled patina with some deep pitting (mostly contained to the buttplate, breechblock and hammer). The rear barrel band has two period marked Xs and front barrel band has no provisions for a spring. The refinished stock is fair with some minor chipping along the grain and some minor dings.
