Buffington rear sight, ramrod bayonet, and smooth buttplate with trapdoor. "V P eagle head P" proof and inspection marks on barrel with "I" on top at breech, "US / MODEL / 1884" marked breechblock, and Eagle/Shield motif next to "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD" on the lock. Oiled stock has a circle "P" proof, a boxed "SWP" cartouche (illegible date), "I / 59" stamped on the comb, "71 / 661" stamped on the right side of the buttstock and "JACK" in a banner period carved on the left side of the buttstock.

Finish: blue/casehardened

Condition: Good. The rifle retains an area of original blue finish from the muzzle to the first band, otherwise scattered traces of blue with the balance a smooth dark patina overall with even minor spotting and pitting. The lock plate has a mottled brown-gray patina. The breechblock retains traces of original case colors. The stock is good with some minor dings and scratches.

B) U.S. Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle
Buffington rear sight, with "V, P, eagle head and P" proof and inspection marks on the left rear barrel side with "A" on top. Standard eagle/shield next to "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD" marking on lock plate and breechblock marked "US / MODEL / 1884". Complete with cleaning rod and leather sling.
