Two U.S. Springfield Trapdoor Rifles A) Springfield Armory Model 1888 Rod Bayonet Trapdoor Rifle
Buffington rear and blade front (with detachable hood) sights, ramrod bayonet and smooth buttplate with trapdoor. "V P eagle head P" proof and inspection marks on barrel with "I" on top at breech, "US / MODEL / 1884" marked breechblock, and Eagle/Shield motif next to "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD" on the lock. Oiled stock has a circle "P" proof, a boxed "SWP / 1890" cartouche, and leather sling.

Condition: Very good. Overall the rifle has a smooth dark brown patina with the breechblock retaining strong amounts of original case colors on the underside and the lock and hammer having a mixed gray patina. The re-oiled stock is fine with some minor dings and scratches with some chipping near the toe. The cartouche is clear. Mechanically fine.

B) U.S. Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle
Buffington rear sight and blade front sight with square base which doubles as a bayonet lug. The lock plate is marked with the eagle/shield motif followed by "US / SPRINGFIELD". The top of the breechblock is marked "US / MODEL / 1873". The left side of the barrel is stamped with "V, P, Eagle head and P" proof and inspection marks and the top is stamped with the letter "A". Sling and stacking swivels, and slotted iron ramrod with button type head. "NGD" is stamped on the buttstock (left side).

Condition: Very good overall. The barrel has a smooth dark brown patina with even minor spotting. The breechblock and lock retain traces of the faded original case colors with the balance a smooth gray patina with some minor spotting. The stock is also very good with some minor sanding marks (a couple long scratches), some speckling and a few streaks of white paint, and some shallow gouging on the buttstock (left side). Mechanically fine.
