Two U.S. Ames Civil War Sabers
1) U.S. Ames Model 1840 Light Artillery Saber made in 1863. The saber has a 32 inch curved single fuller blade with rounded back, with the Ames scroll on the left ricasso and "U.S./ J.T/ 1863" on the reverse. The regulation, D-shaped brass guard has a helmet pommel, 2) U.S. Ames Model 1860 Light Cavalry Saber. The saber has a 34 1/2" single fuller blade. The blade is stamped "U.S./ J.F" on the right ricasso, and has the Ames scroll on the reverse. The grip is covered with leather and wrapped with twisted brass wire. The ordinance inspection mark "JT" is stamped on the reverse side of the knuckle bow. The saber has a regulation nickel-plated steel scabbard. The two branch brass helmet pommel has a leather covered grip with twisted brass wire wrap. The saber is complete with regulation steel scabbard, with an iron sheath. The ordinance inspection mark "ADK" is stamped on top of the pommel. The scabbard drag is stamped with the inspection mark "JCW".

Condition: 1) Very good, with some light wear on the blade and grip, a mixed aged patina on the brass, and spotting and dings on the sheath. 2) Fine. The blade is excellent with nearly all of the original polish and sharp marks.. The guard shows a dark patina. The guiliun has been deliberately bent downward. The grip is in excellent condition. The scabbard is very good, with a dark patina and dents.
