Two Soldier's Letters. From Horatio D.
Two Soldier's Letters. From Horatio D. Sturtevant, N.H., to parents, July 1864 and Jan. 1865, 51/2 pp. in all. 1) From Washington, this PFG of Co. A, 46th Mass. Infantry, writes about his brother, who had been sick with malaria. "He said it would have killed him dead sure if he had stayed much longer in Louisiana. Maj. Gardner allowed him to come up town with us." Describes giving him food and clothing, "then took up our march or ride rather to Georgetown where we were to stay until the regiment came...They are going to encamp at the Chain Bridge. Am so glad he is out of the Dept. of the Gulf. 2) Writes about his roomates. "...John has gone to Phila. on light duty...I hope he won't go into the field again." Very good.
