Two (2) Small Meteorites, Anorthositic Fragment Breccia Lunar and Martian Meteorites.
This Meteorite Lot includes:

1. A 1 mm x 0.8 mm, 0.159-gram polished section shows the characteristic black slate like matrix sprinkled with white clasts of feldspatic rocks. The complete gray lunar meteorite was found in 2001 in the Dhofar region of Oman. It has been classified by the Vernadsky Institute of Geochemistry in Russia as an anorthositic fragmental breccia Lunar meteorite meaning that it was the blasted off the Lunar highlands by meteorite impact, melted and reformed and mixed before it made its journey to the earth. This specimen is contained within a transparent film box and a 4” x 3” Riker box with a Baitylia meteorite collection province as well a certificate of authenticity with a mineralogy description.

2. A .318 gram pebble-sized section from a Martian meteorite is two-toned with a brown matrix interspersed with mostly round black pieces. It is quite striking and indicative of its complex structure. Its crystallization suggests that it was formed in a high temperature oxidation event and also contains hydrous minerals suggesting weathering on the surface of the planet Mars. Oxygen isotope analyses by Dr. Douglas Rumble at the Carnegie Institute in Washington, D.C., has confirmed that it is a Nakhlite Martian meteorite. It is only the sixth-known Nakhlite and has several unique features which are described in detail in a chemical makeup that is included. The complete meteorite only weighed 456 grams and was purchased by G. Hupe. It was found by a nomadic group in western Algeria or eastern Morocco in 2001. This interesting and valuable specimen is housed in a transparent box for easy viewing as well as a 4” x 3” Riker box with a provenance card from the Hupe Collection. (2 items).
