Two stoneware steins in gray and Flemish blue. Made by Weir Pottery Company. In 1903 Weir Pottery Company of Monmouth Illinois won a contract with the Sleepy Eye Milling Company for 500,000 pieces of stoneware. There was also an optional clause for an additional 500,000 pieces. At that time it was the largest single order for pottery in the country. The Sleepy Eye Milling Company was a large flour mill located in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, which began business in 1882 and closed in 1921. It was large, owning as many as twenty-seven elevators in Minnesota and South Dakota. The mill's policy was to sell direct, giving premiums or souvenirs to customers, instead of paying salesmen. They did a great deal of advertising in magazines, on tin signs and one of their promotions was pottery. H 8" W 4 1/2" D at the handle 6 1/2"
