These brooches in Skonvirke style are sought-after Scandinavian Art Nouveau pieces of jewellery

These are two examples of silver brooches in the Scandinavian Skonvirke style. This style depicts typical elements of Art Nouveau and the brooches are additionally adorned with amber cabochons. The brooch by Bernhard Hertz is larger and crafted in an elaborate fashion. It is designed with filigree, floral ornaments. The brooch designed by Jensen & Akerlund is smaller and a delicate design that also resembles a floral ornament.



The brooches are in good condition with minimal signs of age and wear. The dimensions are 5.7 x 7.1 cm and 4.6 x 1.5 cm and the total weight is 15.26 grams. The large brooch bears the hallmark ‘BH’, the purity ‘826’, the letter ‘S’, and a dragonfly on the reverse. The small brooch bears the hallmark ’J & A’, and the purity ‘830S’. (tm)
