A) Manufactured by the Merrill Patent Firearms Manufacturing Company of Baltimore, Maryland from 1864 to 1869 with a total production of only about 800. The 41 caliber barrel tips downward for loading and has a manual extractor. The left side plate has the 1864 patent date (traces remain). It has a blue barrel and silver plated brass frame with a unique checkered push button trigger and checkered grips.

Condition: Fair. The derringer has a bright appearance with minor pitting on the barrel and hammer. The moderately worn grips are fair showing wear in the re-cut checkering. Mechanically fine.
- B) Manufactured alongside its 30 caliber counterpart from 1864 to 1866 with an estimated 500 produced in all. The top barrel flat has the two line address and the grips are numbered to the gun.

Condition: Very good. The barrel has a dark mottled gray patina showing an area of very light pitting. The brass has an attractive patina. The grips are fine with some chipping near the bottoms and a few minor handling marks. Mechanically fine.
