Two Signed Japanese Swords

1) Signed shin-gunto pattern sword, 37 1/2 inches overall with a 26 inch long blade, showing a straight hamon and a silver finished habaki. Gold washed tsuba with cherry blossom decoration, 2 spacers on each side. Salmon-colored cord wrap over white rayskin on the grip, with gilt copper fittings, a spring-loaded retainer in the fuchi, and cherry blossom menuki. The tang is signed on both sides, with 5 engraved symbols on the right and 5 symbols (2 engraved, 3 painted) on the left. With a brown paint finished metal saya, outfitted to match the hilt. 2) Signed Japanese sword, 37 inches long overall with a 26 inch blade, a tight wavy hamon and a copper habaki. Iron 4-lobed tsuba with carved-through vine and dragon themed designs and a pair of copper spacers. Green cord wrapped over white rayskin and ho-oh bird themed menuki, with gold accents on the hilt fittings. The tang is signed, with 6 engraved symbols on the left side of the tang. With a brown lacquer finished saya with leather cover and tanto-style hanging ring.

1) Very good. The blade shows a tiny chip at the tip and some light scratches and handling marks overall, with a well defined hamon and some light cracking of the habaki. Some shifting of the cord and wrap has occurred, exposing the underlying wood, with mild wear and staining. The saya is good with some flakes and scuffs. 2) Very good. A small chip is visible on the tip, with some light handling marks and spotting on the blade and a sharp hamon. The grip wrap is stained with some fraying around the mekugi and some finish loss on the fuchi. Saya is good, with scuffs, stains and cracks on the leather.
