Two Alaska Mining Scams! 1) Josevig-Kennecott Copper Company. #2154. Signed by McDonald as president. Black on purple and not cancelled. Said to have 19 lode claims, 1 placer claim and 7 miles from Kennecott, Alaska. Glowing reports were made regarding this property by the promoters which appear to have been a misrepresentation of fact. One statement is said to have claimed that the mine was superior to the Kennecott Copper Corporation. More conservative estimates made by the consulting engineer give a very small tonnage of ore averaging about 3 1/2% copper. Due to location transportation difficulties small amount and grade of etc the future of this property is uncertain. By 1919 Josevig, McDonald, etc were under Federal Government Grand Jury indictments. [Mines register] 2) nc. in Arizona. No. 137, not cancelled. Issued for 141 shares to CE CHandler on November 15th, 1908. Signed by Peterson (vice president), trustee Charles Pooley and the company secretary. Very plain stock: no vignette, black border. 8.5" x 10" Condition: folds. According to the 1907 Copper Handbook, this company is "a brazen swindle, and its promoters should be in jail" (pg. 537).
