A) James Reid .22 Caliber Engraved "My Friend" Knuckle Duster Revolver. Manufactured 1868-1882. Top strap groove sight, with the left side marked "MY FRIEND PAT'D. DEC. 26, 1865". Seven shot unfluted cylinder, with matching numbers on the cylinder, pin and frame. The iron frame is decorated with broad leaf scroll engraving. Solid grip section, with a checkered panel on the rear.

Condition: Period re-plated. The revolver retains most of the heavily buffed nickel finish with loss concentrated on the cylinder due to flaking. There is some minor flaking on the hammer as well and the top strap is foggy. The top strap marking is clear and the engraving for the most part is crisp. The action is fine.

B) Manufactured in the 1880s with a total production of only several hundred, this unique metallic cartridge revolver features a superposed barrel known as the "Duplex" the upper barrel is 22 caliber and the lower is 32 caliber rimfire. The 8 round cylinder is for the upper barrel and the lower barrel is a single shot and also services as the cylinder pin. The hammer striker pivots for selectively firing the revolver or the single shot. It has a top break action which pivots downward for loading. The left side of the lower barrel is marked "OSGOOD GUN WORKS. NORWICH, CONN.", the top of the barrel rib is marked "PAT'D DEC. 7. 1880" and the matching serial number appears on the left side of the trigger and left side of the frame under the grip. Blade front and notch rear sights, all nickel finish and fitted with smooth two-piece varnished walnut grips.

Condition: Period re-plated. The revolver retains most of the nickel finish which has dulled with age. Loss is limited to what appears to be ground or scratched off finish on the back strap, outer edges of the front strap and on the butt. There is some minor flaking around the barrel latch hinge and overall there are a few minor scratches and dings. The grips are very good with a minor crack on the heel of the right panel and overall scattered minor dings and dents. The markings are crisp and clear. There is a little play in the cylinder, otherwise the action is very good.
