Two Rare U.S. Navy Brass Wall Plaques

1) Measuring 12 1/2 inches tall, this Battle Efficiency plaque was awarded to the USS Lowry DD-770, an Allen M. Sumner class destroyer in 1963 for engineering (see image). The Lowry served in WWII, the Korean War and Vietnam War and participated in the recovery of Astronaut Virgil Grissom after he successfully completed the second American space flight and naval quarantine of Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis. The plaque was removed before the ship was transferred to the Brazilian Navy in 1973. 2) Measuring nearly 10 inches in diameter, this Fleet Training Center, Newport, Rhode Island, brass plaque has the motto "Train in peace, win in war" (see image). Naval Station Newport is the home of the Navy’s most prestigious educational institution, the Naval War College. Notable War College graduates include Fleet Admirals Chester W. Nimitz, Ernest J. King, and William "Bull" Halsey.
