Two Pre Civil War Staff Officers Swords
1) The first sword follows the pattern of Model 1840 Medical Staff, Pay Department, and Commissary Swords. The sword has a cast brass hilt with acorn-shaped capstan, cast spread eagle's on the grip, upturned quillions and two lagnets. The reverse lagnet is cast with six stars. The sword has a 29- inch, fluted triangular blade and leather scabbard with plain brass tip. 2) The second sword is a militia staff officer's sword with fluted bone handle, cast brass, ball-shaped pommel and counter-guard formed by a cast spread eagle and U.S. shield. The sword has a 28- inch, undecorated, double edge blade and is fixed with a black steel scabbard with pierced brass throat and tip.

1) The Medical Officer's Sword is very good, with some light handling marks and spotting on the pommel and counterguard. The blade is excellent with minimal wear. The black leather scabbard is in fair condition. The scabbard is missing a trroat and the stitching on the back is loose. 2) The Militia Staff Officer's Sword is in very good condition. The brass pommel, counterguard and scabbard throat and drag have about 50% of the gilt finish. The bone handle has some age discoloration but no cracks or chips. The blade has some age discoloration but remains in good condition. The steel scabbard has most of the darkened finish and is in good condition.
