Everyday objects with cosmonaut decoration became very popular after Gagarin’s flight. In this way, the form for these two pen holders also originated from this context. The porcelain factory, Polonsky, produced these pen holders since the 1960s. They were decorated with various motives. In the 1960s, the motives were painted with Soviet flags. Due to the fact that the Russian flag is shown on the pen holders, it can be assumed that this pair were created in the 1990s. Two figures are painted in the front and on the back side with different cosmonaut symbols in the over-glaze technique showing the inscriptions of ‘???’ und ‘???????? ???????’ (Star City).

The figures are inscribed with the factory mark, Porcelain Factory Polonsky, underneath. They are 14 cm high with the dimensions of 7.5 cm x 7.5 cm. They are in very good condition and have minimal signs of use and age.
