Two Original Framed World War One Posters
This lot consists of one British WWI poster and one German WWI poster. The 24-inch by 26-inch German poster depicts a soldier wearing a spiked helmet with field cover and carrying a slung rifle placing a wreath on a military grave. Flanking the image are the dates "1914" and "1916". The original image was executed in charcoal, has somber red and blue highlights and was signed by the artist "F.ERLER". The printer's name: "DB.C. WOLF &SOHN, MUNCHEN-LITH&STEINDRUCK" is printed on the lower left hand corner of the poster. The poster is professionally framed. The second poster is British and features the headline: "A MILLLION POUNDS A WEEK/ IS THE APPROXIMATE VALUE OF SALVAGE OF THE BRITISH ARMIES IN FRANCE/HELP MAKE IT TWO MILLIONS". The full color poster depicts three British soldiers collecting rifles, hand grenades, helmets and other German military equipment in a captured trench. The artist's signature and date, "Gerald C. Hudson, '18" is visible at the bottom of the poster. The poster is professionally framed and matted. These are two scarce, original, posters that illustrate aspects of the war that were not usually depicted in print.
