lot of two portraits of Medicine Bear from S.J. Morrow's series The Great North-West with the following titles written below each image: 101 Medicine Bear / Ma-to-wa-ca Chief of the Upper Yanktonia Sioux; and 102 Ma-to-wa-ca, or Medicine Bear, Chief of Upper Yanktonais. Each with Morrow's Yankton, Dakota imprint on recto. In both views, Medicine Bear wears a necklace of grizzly bear claws. In the second view, he is well-armed with a muzzle-loading rifle, and a Model 1812 Dragoon saber thrust through his belt. 

Condition: Light soiling; staining on mount of first stereoview; light edgewear.
