Two Mexican Wooden Carved and Painted Masks. 1) Chief mask with goat beard is 19''H x 6'' W. 2) The wooden carved mask has a hair beard, mustache and beard. Measures 11'' H x 6.5''W. The use of masks in Mexico dates from 3000 BC. Masks were used by priests to summon the power of deities and in the sacrifices of pre-Hispanic Mexico. In Mexico, masks are used as part of the tradition of the village festival, honoring saint's days and major Christian holidays.
