Condition: 1) Excellent. The blade shows a 1" segment of pitting at the tip, light scratches and a very strong hamon. The seppa has been battered, with a split developing on the front. Tsuka is good, rewrapped with cuts in the wrap to accommodate the mekugi. Saya is very good, with mild wear and spotting on the exposed metal. 2) Excellent, with some minor chipping at the tip, strong temper line and light scratches and dings on the blade. The habaki shows some finish loss, with 40% gold on the tsuba, which shows a fine brass patina on the remainder. Some fraying of the wrap and tassel, and loss of rayskin is visible on the tsuka. Saya is very good, with a some light dents and spotting. An excellent pair of Japanese martial swords.
