Two Japanese Swords: Russo-Japanese Sword & WWII Army Office
1st being the Russo-Japanese War Army Officer's sword and scabbard also called Kyu-gunto sword, this example is of the Katana type with longer (8") hilt, total length in scabbard is 37.5", AND WWII Army Officer's sword with 27.25" single-edged Katana steel blade has a beveled top edged and false Midare style (irregular) Hamon (heat-treatment on edge). The Nakago (tang) is signed on left side, with single Nakago-ana (mounting hole), total length without mounts, 35". The hilt mounts are of the WWII era and include Army officer's-type cast floral decorated bronze Tsuba (guard) flanked by numbered cast brass O-seppa and copper Seppa, with brass Habaki and cast bronze Fuchi (front collar) with push button release and Kabuto-gane (pommel) with Sarute, shagreen covered wood grip with woven cordage wrap and cast bronze Menuki on each face in form of three flowers, total length with mounts, 35". The Saya (scabbard) is late war Army-type, being plain wood with brown leather cover and single Ashi (carrying ring), total length 27.5", total length in scabbard, 38.25". Piece of canvas is attached to the Ashi with Japanese inked inscription.
