Flown Buran heat-resistant tiles are of great rarity

These are two heat-resistant tiles of the Soviet space shuttle Buran. One of the tiles is painted in colors with the depiction of the Buran and the inscription in Cyrillic ‘BAIKONUR’, the name of the Soviet cosmodrome. The second tile was used and is burnt black. The heat-resistant tiles are crafted of a thin brittle cover of borosilicate and a fused quartz fiber layer to resist temperatures of up to 1500° C. Both tiles are mounted on felt. This type of tiles build the largest part of a heat shield, which is to prevent the vaporization of the space shuttle through the enormous compression heat at reentry into the aerospace.

The two engine heat-resistant tiles are in good condition, the edges are bumped. The dimensions are max. 9.5 x 15 cm.
