<Our item number 139982><B>Two Hawaiian Monarchy Land Deeds.</B> One document is 12½ x 8 in., 1883, March 24, 4 pp., being a transaction with John D. Paris, Jr. relative to land in South Kona, Island of Hawaii. Includes 4 cancelled &#36;1.00 Hawaiian government duty stamps. Fine with slight foxing. Paris was elected to the Territorial Legislature in 1887 and was a member of the Reform. With a Hawaiian monarchy land mortgage deed 12½ x 8 in., 1888, June 25, 5 pp., being a transaction with D. S. Kaui and Mrs. S. Robertson relative to land in Omokaa &#40;Royal Patent 3434&#41;, Kona, Island of Hawaii. Among the signatories are Thomas G. Thrum, A., Charles Gulick, and William R. Castle. Thrum issued the first Hawaiian Almanac and Annual in 1875; he was a leading writer on Hawaiian archaeology and folklore. Gulick was a prominent businessman and one of the few missionary sons holding royalist sympathies. William R. Castle was Attorney General of the Kingdom of Hawaii from February to November, 1876.
