Rosenberg, Sally. AUKTION-KATALOG. INHALT: MÜNZEN DER VEREINIGTEN STAATEN VON NORD-AMERIKA... Frankfurt, 3. Juni 1912. 4to, original printed card covers. 14, (2) pages; 364 lots; 1 photographically printed plate. Covers and title loose and a bit chipped at edges. Good, overall; plate better. [with] Rosenberg, Sally. PUBLIC AUCTION ON JUNE 3D. 1912 OF TWO STATUES REPRESENTING GEORGE WASHINGTON AND BENJAMIN FRANKLIN. Frankfurt a. Main, June 3, 1912. Single sheet, 25 by 37 cm. Folded in half, one side not printed, the other featuring descriptive text and a fine photographically printed plate depicting both statuettes. Near fine. A rare separate printing of the American section of a little-known German sale featuring fractional California gold coins (60 lots), large cents (126 lots), and colonials. The first plate depicts both sides of one round and three octagonal fractional California gold coins, six nice large cents, and a Continental Currency dollar. The quality of the plate is generally quite good, despite the disclaimer printed in red at the bottom: “Unfortunately the plates [sic] are spoiled, these coins are of the very best condition, especially the edges are not defective.” The illustrated flyer offering the two statues is the first we recall ever having seen. The text reads in part: “The statues are supposed to be made about 1800 by an [sic] French artist and are warranted genuine and old. They are made of fine gold bronze, 9½ inches (240 mm) high. The plates [sic] will give an idea of the fine artistic work.”
