A) Manufactured by Steyr in 1940. The top of the receiver ring is marked "660", the wartime code for Steyr, over "1940", with an eagle firing proof and serial number on the left side and four eagle/WaA623 proofs on the right side. The barrel is marked with three eagle/WaA623 proofs and an eagle firing proof, along with the serial number and "*". Blade front and tangent rear sights. Mismatched serial numbers.

B) Manufactured by J.P. Sauer and Sohns factory in 1940. The top of the receiver ring is marked "S/147", the code of Sauer and Sohns, over 1940, with an eagle firing proof and the serial number on the left side and two eagle/37 proof and one eagle/259 proof on the right side. "Mod. 98" on left receiver wall. The barrel is marked with an eagle firing proof, two eagle/37 proofs and three eagle/359 proofs, along with "40DS" and serial number. Blade front and tangent rear sights. Visible numbers match with the stock unmarked.

A) Good with refinished barrel bands. Overall the metal surfaces retain approximately 20% original blue finish with the balance a smooth gray patina. The barrel bands retain most of the blue finish. The wood is fine with some minor dings and scratches.

B) Good, with approximately 50% original blue finish remaining with the balance a smooth brown-gray patina, with some minor spotting. Cleaning rod is absent. The wood is good with an absent chip near the toe and some moderate gouges, along with some minor dings and scratches.
