Two Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago 1929 Small Size Currency Circulars.
The first circular is dated May 23, 1929 and is titled, "Exhibition Sets of New Small-Size Currency." It explains how incorported bank or trust companies can for the cost of $18 receive an exhibition set of the new small size paper money. The exhibition set consisted of a $1 Silver Certificate, $2 United States Note; and $5 and $10 Federal Reserve Notes. The official issuance date of small size paper money was on July 10, 1929, so this gave the banks who participated in this exhibition program a little over a month to display these notes and inform the public. The second circular is dated June 3, 1929 and is titled "Issue of New Small Size Currency." It spells out the July 10, 1929 issue date for the new small size paper money and the procedure that will be used in the near future as large and small currency will circulate together. Also, the old size notes will be retired gradually in the regular course of business. The letter further states how small size Nationals will be printed in order of charter number and issuance will commence about July 15, 1929. There is also other historical information found in these two letters. We have seen any letters like these before, and must thank one bank employee for preserving these historical items. Both circulars show normal folds from being mailed in an envelope. The first circular has been circled in red pencil and has a line highlighted and the second circular shows some fingerprint smudging.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
