1) Produced in the style of the late 15th and early 16th Centuries, this sword measures 65 inches overall, with a 50 1/2 inch double edged triple fuller blade, outfitted with a set of 5 3/8 inch wide guard spikes, engraved with geometric designs, and marked "ANDREA FARARO ME FECIT" (Andrea Fararo made me) in one of the fullers. This is most likely in imitation of the maker's mark of Andrea Ferrara, the semi-legendary Scottish maker. The hilt is equipped with side guard rings, 18 inch wide octagonal twist quillions, leather wrapped ribbed hardwood grip, and a conical pommel. Overall weight is 7.9 pounds. 2) Measuring 58 3/4 inches overall, with a 46 1/2 inch wavy blade, fitted with a pair of upturned 7 inch wide parrying hooks, and the stamp "WEIN" (Vienna, Austria) next to an "S" with two dots on one side. The hilt is equipped with a flat 14 1/8 inch wide crossguard with riveted side rings, ribbed hardwood grip and golden fringe around the conical pommel. Overall weight is 6.2 pounds. Condition:
1) Very fine, with mild handling marks overall, scattered pitting, and a gray patina on the steel. The leather shows some mild staining and wear. Hilt fittings are rigidly secured to the blade. 2) Fine. A mixed gray patina is showing overall, with brown in the protected areas, scattered pitting, and a number of edge dings, especially on the middle third of the blade. The hilt shows some mended cracks and chips on the grip, and a small amount of filler material. Overall fit of the hilt components is strong and rigid. Though impossible to confirm, the pattern of damage on the blade edges and the light weight do suggest that this blade may have been made for combat, as opposed to being a pure display or parade item.
