Lot of 2 different. 1) Mount Alpine Gold Company of Colorado stock certificate. Issued in 1864, 25-cent revenue stamp on left border. Signed by president J. Yeoman and secretary J. Randall. The company operated in the Griffith Mining District, Empire, Clear Creek County, Colorado. It was incorporated in New York. The mining property was located in the Griffith District, Georgetown, Colorado Territory. A 10 page prospectus was printed in 1864 by the Evening Press Office. In the spring of 1860 George and David Griffith et al staked the entire area as a homestead ranch. This was called the Griffith Mining District and in June of that year the miners called a meeting and drew up laws and regulations to govern the district . By 1864, all of the lodes in the Georgetown area passed into the hands of Eastern capitalists. Five mines were organized in 1864; the Georgetown, Washington, Mount Alpine, Wilson & Cass and Express. The Mount Alpine built a large, handsome mill containing 24 stamps. The company did a great deal of work on the Griffith, Corisannie, and other lodes. Subsequently in 1867 the company was reorganized in Rhode Island becoming "The What Cheer". [The Mines of Colorado by Orvando J. Hollister 1867] 2) London Mining Company. Located in Mosquito district, Park county. See 1883 Burchard p 389, C&L pg.545. Issued in 1883, not cancelled. The London mine was 4.5 miles west-southwest of Alma, Park County.
