Lot of 2 different. Both are self-identified as Columbus Mining District. 1) Mt. Potosi Consolidated Mining Company. Location: Columbus Mining District, Esmeralda County, Nevada (printed at bottom center). Inc. Sept. 8, 1878. No. 1969, issued for 500 shares to Wm. Alexander in 1882. Signed by the president, M. Lowden and secretary JH Sayre. Not cancelled. Ornate logo, no vignette. Printed by E. Bosqui & Co. Lith., SF. 2) Holmes Mining Company. Rare Candelaria mining district stock for a mine operating just at the start of the twentieth century in response to the massive mining boom caused by Tonopah and Goldfield discoveries. Signed by AJ Holmes as president and EA Holmes as secretary. #399 for 250 shares issued in 1880. Incorporated Feb. 16, 1880. Location: Columbus Mining Dist., Esmeralda Co., Nev. Small milling vignette on bottom. Nice looking stock. In 1883 the Holmes made big news when they were involved in a major lawsuit with the Northern Belle. In 1886 they declared their first dividend and at least three more. In 1887 the mine and mill was closed through February.
