Two Civil War U.S. Model 1860 Light Cavalry Sabers
This lot consists of two regulation pattern, U.S. contract Model 1860 Light Cavalry sabers with scabbards. Both sabers have bright, 34-5/8 inch curved, single edged blades with two fullers and round backs. The brass hilts have two branch guards with Phrygian pommels and leather covered grips with twisted brass wire. The sabers are complete with regulation wrapped iron scabbards. One saber is stamped with the makers mark "EMERSON/&/SILVER/TRENTON/N.J." on the reverse ricasso and "U.S./J.M./1864" on the obverse, and "J.M." on the top of the pommel. The other saber is stamped "DJ MILLARD CLAYVILLE.N.Y." in an oval on the reverse ricasso and "U.S./WEH/1863" on the obverse with "J.J." on the top of the pommel.

Both sabers are in good overall condition. The Millard saber has a bright blade, unpolished brass guard and pommel with dark patina. The leather grip cover is split on one side and all but one wrap of the twisted brass wire is missing. The iron scabbard has a dark patina with surface rust and several shallow dents. The blade of the Emerson & Silver saber has a silver-gray patina with scattered spotting. The brass guard and pommel have not been polished, all of the leather grip cover and wire wrap is intact. The scabbard has a dark patina with scattered surface rust but no dents.
