Two Bronze Pony Express Plaques

1) Marion Breckenridge (Am 20th C). Pony Express centennial bronze plaque. This plaque shows the three founders of the Pony Express and is dated 1860-1861 to 1960-61. In addition, the plaque shows a lone Pony Express rider on horseback following the overland route from St Joseph, Mo. To Sacramento, Ca. The plaque is signed underneath the Pony Express logo and the obverse side is marked with the foundry stamp of the Frank Hays Metalworks, Sonoma, Ca. 17" in diameter and weighs approximately 12 lbs. Very good. 2) Alexander Phimister Proctor (Am 1862-1950). Pony Express 50th anniversary bronze plaque. Wells Fargo of California commissioned this plaque for the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Pony Express and to commemorate the original 60 Pony Express stations built between St Joseph and Sacramento. The plaque shows a cowboy on a fast galloping horse going to the next relay station. Each monument would be decorated with a commemorative plaque mounted in a suitable building, rock base, or other frame. The bronze is listed in the Bergmann book on bronzes pages 1184-1185 and numbered 4579. This is a great depiction of an era in communications that lasted only 15 months. The plaque is signed under the Pony Express logo by Proctor. 17" in diameter and weighs approximately 12 lbs.
