This marks the first appearance of the serialized version of the story (which pre-dated the hardcover edition) and was simultaneously published in England in Pearson’s magazine. At the time The Cosmopolitan bore little resemblance to the iconic women's magazine it has become. Started in 1886 as a "first class" family magazine, it featured articles on fashion, management of children, and under the editorship of John Brisben Walker, it became a leading market for fiction. These volumes ranging from May, 1897 through April, 1898 only lack the first 5 chapters of the total 22 chapters of H. G. Wells classic “it came from outer space” novella complete with illustrations by Cosmo Rowe and Warwick Goble. Each volume is uniformly bound in a modern half leather binding with marbled boards, gilt spine labels, 8vo (6.75” x 9.75”), the internal contents are bright, sound and in near fine condition. Each volume has a very small old library stamp on the title page. This attractive set is housed in a modern slip case.

Shipping: Books & Catalogs (view shipping information)
