Two copies of booklet titled Did General Meade Desire To Retreat At Gettysburg? by George Meade Jr., Porter & Coates, Philadelphia. 1883, 29pp. Both copies have paper wraps and have been bound in hardback. First copy exhibits chipping to flyleaves and detached boards. Second copy is bound with 49 letters thanking Meade Jr. for copies of this publication and some with thoughts on it. Letter writers include: General Winfield Scott Hancock, General Alexander Webb, General A.A. Humphreys, General David McMurtrie Gregg, Charles Cadwallader, General Henry Hunt, J.G. Rosengarten and others. At end of book are several mounted news clippings concerning book and Meade. Interior exhibits some foxing with boards detached. Second copy has Meade bookplate.
